Ten Days in the Tall Trees

A river is a bridge / of time sliced throat / of an apple

Water called out to me
each mouth a lush blue
garden, window, a warning:
The rooftop is the worst.

Sight is nothing but an opportunity
to become the mountain’s
bruised heads disrupting
the horizon where the water

streams into a comma
piercing the tongue
behind my tongue splitting
open ing to my grandmother.

Language is where I grew less
small light streaming through the gaps
between my fingers
tell a fortune of their own like
who was related to

who? Who? If you’re there,
tell me where the creek stretches
beyond the de facto
line your eye with mine.

A river is a bridge
of time sliced throat
of an apple is in season
on the other side savor
the tart sting
again, again &
