Tarfa Benson is a Nigerian writer and visual artist working in the urgency of transit, African Traditional religions, utopia, male intimacies and the unconscious self. Their work has been published in several anthologies (online and in print) like the Hopkins Review, Michigan Quarterly Review and exhibited in art festivals and group showcases. Their first novel, The Madhouse, was published by Penguin Random House SA in 2021 and was translated into Arabic by Alrabie Publishers in Egypt in 2023. They have completed a fellowship at the International Writer’s Program at the University of Iowa and writing residencies at Moniack Mhor, Scotland and Art Omi, New York. They regularly teach workshops on magical realism for Lolwe, and literary festivals. They received a Folger Fellowship in 2025.
