Sujatha Fernandes is a writer and professor. She is the author of several books, including Curated Stories: The Uses and Misuses of Storytelling and Who Can Stop the Drums? Urban Social Movements in Chávez’s Venezuela. She has published a memoir on a global hip-hop life, Close to the Edge, and has a forthcoming collection of essays entitled The Cuban Hustle. She is a Professor of political economy and sociology at the University of Sydney. Her essays and short stories have appeared in the New York Times, The Nation, New Ohio Review, The Maine Review, and Aster(ix), among others.
